Sindh Government Considers Extending School Winter Vacations Amid Cold Wave

Anticipation builds as the Sindh government deliberates on extending school winter vacations due to an unexpected drop in temperatures.

Schools were initially set to reopen on January 1, 2025, but a persistent cold wave has prompted widespread speculation about a possible extension, leaving parents, students, and educators eagerly awaiting an official announcement.

Unprecedented Cold Conditions in Karachi

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted further temperature declines in Karachi, with nighttime temperatures expected to hover between 8°C and 10°C over the next three days.

This cold wave, driven by a shallow westerly disturbance impacting the western and northern regions of Pakistan, has also begun to influence Karachi’s typically moderate winter climate. Residents are experiencing unusually chilly nights, leading many to take additional precautions to stay warm.

The PMD attributes the cold spell to prevailing continental air across much of the country, further intensifying Karachi’s frosty mornings.
