Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is taking bold steps to enhance its operations by launching new domestic and international routes, alongside significant upgrades to its fleet. These initiatives are part of the airline’s broader strategy to improve connectivity and boost revenues in 2025.
Starting January 2025, PIA will introduce several new routes using its Boeing 777 and Airbus A320 aircraft. Among the highlights is a new twice-weekly flight connecting Sialkot to Bahrain, beginning January 20. Similarly, passengers traveling between Lahore and Kuwait can benefit from weekly services starting January 25. Additional routes include two weekly flights between Lahore and Dammam from January 22 and a weekly Faisalabad-Jeddah connection launching on January 20.
Domestic travelers can also look forward to increased options, with weekly flights set to begin between Peshawar and Karachi on January 25. Meanwhile, international connections will expand further with Sialkot-Doha flights starting January 21.
In an ambitious move, PIA’s acting CEO, Khurram Mushtaq, outlined plans to restore grounded aircraft to service, aiming to bring the operational fleet up to 24 aircraft in the coming months. Currently, 19 out of the airline’s 34 planes are functional, thanks to recent efforts that activated additional Boeing 777, Airbus A320, and ATR planes.
This fleet expansion is expected to allow PIA to resume operations in key markets, including Europe, where the Boeing 777 aircraft will play a central role.
To support these upgrades, the airline has also approved a 25% salary increase for its employees, underlining its commitment to workforce development. With these measures, PIA is positioning itself for a robust comeback, aiming to enhance its reputation and operational efficiency in the highly competitive aviation industry.
