Dense Fog in Punjab: Major Motorways Shut Down to Ensure Public Safety

Heavy fog blanketed parts of Punjab, forcing authorities to close key sections of motorways to prevent accidents. Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed announced that the M2 motorway from Thokar Niaz Baig to Babu Sabu, the M3 from Samundri to Darkhana, and the M4 between Shorkot and Gojra were shut down due to poor visibility.

“Motorways are closed to ensure public safety,” Ahmed stated, advising drivers to travel between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. when visibility improves. Motorists were also urged to use fog lights, maintain safe distances, reduce speed, and avoid unnecessary trips during these conditions.

The closures aim to minimize accidents common in Punjab during winter fog, which creates hazardous driving conditions.

In related news, winter vacation schedules have been announced across Pakistan. Schools in Islamabad will be closed from December 21 to January 5, 2025, while in Punjab, vacations begin on December 23. Schools in colder areas will remain shut until February 28, while others will reopen earlier in January.
