No Complete Ban on UAE Visas for Pakistanis Official Statement from the UAE

In a recent session of the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, it was clarified that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has not imposed a “complete denial” on issuing visas to Pakistani nationals. The meeting addressed ongoing concerns regarding visa restrictions and provided reassurance about the UAE’s approach towards Pakistani workers.

Official Statement from the UAE

Dr. Bakheet Ateeq Al Rumaithi, the UAE Consul General in Karachi, firmly rejected the impression of a visa ban on Pakistani nationals. He reiterated that Pakistan remains a priority for the UAE, especially in areas of business and investment. These remarks align with the statement from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, which clarified that visa restrictions are not universal but may vary depending on labor market needs.

Skilled Workers in Demand

During the committee meeting, chaired by Senator Zeeshan Khanzada, the Secretary of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development highlighted that while the demand for unskilled labor has declined, there are no restrictions on skilled workers.

“Approximately 700,000 workers have migrated abroad this year. We need to focus on sending more skilled workers to meet the demands of international markets,” the secretary noted.

Addressing Public Concerns

Despite these assurances, concerns persist among the public. Senator Khanzada stressed that the issue requires more transparency and proactive communication. He pointed out that many agents claim to fulfill all visa requirements, yet applications are often delayed or rejected.

To address this, the committee has called for updates on visa compliance measures and timelines. Senator Khanzada also suggested involving Overseas Employment Promoters (OEPs) in future discussions to ensure robust checks and balances in the visa application process.

Sovereign Decisions on Visa Issuance

The Foreign Office of Pakistan has previously dismissed claims of a complete visa ban. Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized that granting visas is a sovereign decision of the UAE, and Pakistan respects their policies.

Challenges and the Path Forward

While progress has been made, significant challenges remain for Pakistani nationals seeking visas to the UAE. This issue continues to be a focal point in bilateral discussions between the two governments.

The UAE’s stance on prioritizing skilled labor provides an opportunity for Pakistan to enhance its workforce’s capabilities. By focusing on skill development and improving transparency in the visa application process, both countries can work towards mutually beneficial solutions.
