Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is gearing up for a significant expansion of its fleet in 2024, with plans to acquire eight new aircraft. This announcement, made by PIA CEO Khurram Mushtaq, signals a pivotal moment for the national carrier as it aims to enhance its services and operational reach.
Focus on Long-Haul Routes
Among the new additions, PIA plans to include wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft, which are ideal for long-haul routes. This strategic move aims to strengthen the airline’s international presence and provide improved service quality to passengers traveling to distant destinations.

Resumption of European Operations
PIA is also set to resume its European operations after a four-year hiatus. The airline will launch direct flights to Paris starting January 10, with two weekly flights planned initially. This marks a major milestone in rebuilding its reputation and services in the European market.
Partnership with Air France
To further enhance passenger connectivity, PIA has partnered with Air France. This collaboration will allow travelers greater access to destinations across Europe, providing convenience and more travel options.
Improvements in Domestic Services
In addition to international expansions, PIA is taking steps to improve domestic operations. Daily flights between Karachi and Sukkur will commence, catering to the needs of local travelers. This comes amidst a decline in domestic air travel demand due to the rise of motorways.
Commitment to Quality
Addressing concerns about in-flight meal quality raised during a meeting with the National Assembly Standing Committee on Aviation, CEO Khurram Mushtaq assured members that significant enhancements have been implemented. The airline remains committed to improving passenger experience across all aspects of its service.
With these developments, PIA is setting the stage for a transformative year ahead, aiming to reclaim its position as a leading player in the aviation industry.
