Winter Vacation Announced for Schools in KPK: Detailed Schedule for 2024-2025

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has officially announced the winter vacation schedule for public and private schools across the province for the 2024-2025 academic year. The decision, aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of students and teachers, takes into account the region’s diverse climatic conditions.

The announcement, issued by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department on December 16, 2024, provides a clear timeline for schools in both summer and winter zones, ensuring clarity and convenience for students, parents, and educational staff.

Division of Winter Vacation Zones

The province has been categorized into two distinct zones—summer zones (plains and warmer areas) and winter zones (hilly and snowy regions)—based on climate. Each zone follows a different vacation schedule to address varying weather conditions.

1. Summer Zone/Plain Areas

Schools in the summer zones will observe a short winter break starting from 22nd December 2024 and lasting until 31st December 2024. This 10-day vacation period allows for minimal disruption to the academic calendar while still giving students a break to enjoy the festive season.

2. Winter Zone/Hilly and Snowy Areas

For schools in colder, snow-prone areas, an extended vacation has been granted to protect students from severe weather. These institutions will remain closed from 22nd December 2024 to 28th February 2025, spanning over two months. This extended break ensures that students are not exposed to the challenges of traveling to school in freezing temperatures or heavy snowfall.

Official Notification and Implementation

The notification was signed by the Secretary of the Elementary and Secondary Education Department and forwarded to all commissioners, district education officers, and school authorities to ensure uniform implementation. Educational institutions in both public and private sectors have been instructed to adhere strictly to these dates.

Why This Decision Matters

The winter vacation schedule is a strategic move by the KP government to accommodate the unique weather conditions of different regions. Students in hilly areas often face difficulties commuting to school during heavy snowfall, making an extended vacation a practical solution. Meanwhile, the shorter vacation for plain areas balances the academic requirements of students with their need for rest and relaxation.

This decision reflects the provincial government’s commitment to providing safe and effective learning environments, tailored to the geographical diversity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

As the vacations draw closer, parents and students across the province can now plan their winter activities and travel accordingly, making the most of the seasonal break.
